The third week

this week was not particularly interesting, not a lot was done this week. On the other hand, this is to be expected, because it is only the start of my internship at TAMK. I still need to learn a lot of things on how to do certain handlings and protocols that I will be doing once the project starts. For example I learned how to breed fish and screen the embryos to get the unfertilized separated from the fertilized embryos. I also got the results back from a test that I was running so I spent a bit of time to process the data. Ofcourse not all my time was spent on lab work, a significant amount of time was spent reading up on the different subjects that will be talked about in my thesis that I am writing.

Besides work as I am in a city that I don’t really know i decided to go for a walk in the city centre. Here I discovered a bustling shopping district, some quiet gems and a grand market hall. In this market hall there are many different stalls which you can chose from, the selection goes from fresh and cured meats, vegetables, fresh and smoked fish to shoes and clothing shops. The stall that I most liked is the one where they sell smoked salmon, they had this smoked chilli salmon that just hit the spot, I will definitely return to try some more. Apart from these stall they also have food stalls ranging from local dishes to texan bbq and sushi, in other words they have something for everyone.

The last thing I want to talk about are the lessons I learned this past week. Even when things seem slow, there’s always something to learn. You migth feel like you’re doing very little but there’s always a valuable knowledge or skills to be gained. The second is, new experiences can be found even in familiar places. Even if you’re used to living in a big city or have done a lot of things, go and explore because you never know what is waiting for you.
